CDC has released a document which provides guidance on caring for individuals with dengue, focusing on symptom management, hydration, and prevention of mosquito bites.
**Caring for Mild Symptoms**
– Rest is crucial; manage fever with acetaminophen, avoiding ibuprofen and aspirin.
– Use cool water sponging to reduce fever.
– Prevent dehydration by monitoring fluid intake and recognizing signs such as reduced urination and dry mouth. Provide fluids like water, juice, or electrolyte drinks.
**Recognizing Severe Symptoms**
– Seek immediate medical attention for severe dehydration signs, including persistent vomiting, dark urine, and lethargy.
– Warning signs may appear 24-48 hours after fever subsides, including severe abdominal pain, bleeding, and difficulty breathing.
**Preventing Dengue Transmission**
– Protect others by wearing long sleeves, using screens, and applying EPA-registered insect repellents.
– Understand that severe dengue can be life-threatening and requires urgent care.
